Chelsea (Charlote Scarlet) Greyhound Walks Founder
19 May 1996 - 22 March 2011
February 2005 - yet another email hit DPs Inbox. Short, sweet and to the point (the email, not Dave). It simply read: “Have you considered a Greyhound ?”. An equally short and simple reply went back to the sender, Janet Peacock, reading “Are you nuts? We have cats!!” It’s well know that once Dave makes a decision, he never backs down. But that weekend found the Peacocks at Dunrunnin looking at the short list of two greyhounds; a large boy called Bart and a small 8yr old bitch called Jan … err Chelsea. The following weekend, a Mr Gary Honeywood delivered what was to be the beginning of a book of history. Chelsea had landed.
Mo
4 June 2001 - 22 March 2011
On my birthday back in 2006, my daughter decided that we would bring my retirement dreams forward and adopt a retired greyhound.
We went to Ockendon where we met lots of lovely greyhounds but Mo was special from the first minute we met. She was let into the run and ignored everyone and came straight over to me for a cuddle. We put her back and walked another hound. After this she was let out again and once more came straight over for another cuddle.
I knew then that the bald, skinny girl with big eyes and very few teeth was the right one. We adopted her on 25th February 2006.
Wagger
15 January 1998 - 12 February 2010
In May 2002, we trotted off to a new local greyhound rescue, Dunrunnin to look at a black speckled bitch called Snowflake. Our beloved Patrick was on borrowed time and we felt it right to get our next dog at that time. In the kennel with Snowflake was the biggest fluffy white and fawn boy we had ever seen. When Marc went into see him – Wagger, as he was called, climbed all over him for a hug. Going for a walk with Patrick was a dream – so job done. A week later he was home with us.
He spent the first 24 hours running around the house panting and stressing, unable to calm down long enough to eat, drink or lie down. He then discovered the dolly box and spent the 2 days collecting them in his bed so he had nowhere to sleep.
Horis
24 July 2005 - 10 April 2009
After having just one Greyhound for a whole 7 months I decided it was high time for another. I walked a couple of bitches first thinking that Domino would prefer a lady friend and I checked their reaction to the small Dibble dog (Terrier). The girls were lovely but then I met the very handsome Horis and the decision was made; he came home with us on 1st February 2009.
Horis fitted in straight away he was kind, sensitive, loving, great fun and very funny, sadly he was not with us for long. Horis had lymphoma and left us at Easter just 10 short weeks after his arrival.
Although very young, Horis squeezed a lot fun into his 3 short years and he gave us a lot of love and wonderful memories.

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.
For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.
No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.
They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.
For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.
The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.
