Walks of companionship

These walks are the pillars that support me
When past qualms mirror and look back
They are the needed encouragement
To my confidence, in which I sometimes lack.

Running, mischievously barking at each other
Or watching the sun peer through an airy glade
Walking together across the unsullied coastlines
And because of this, no dark shadows form the shade

During times when I lose my nerve
And my anxieties run like water through deep canyons
I get strength and joy from you all
My rescued Greyhound companions.

Carol's Missy - "before coming on her first Greyhound Walk Missy was a nervous jumpy girl, totally afraid of any other dog, she would not let any person apart from those she knew and trusted well touch her. We met Jenny and Kenya on that first walk and now walk weekly with them and Missy is so much more confident, will even approach other dogs to say hello and will let complete strangers pet her. The two girls are such good friends and walk side by side, each looking to see if the other is close by, and gaining reassurance from the others presence. And to cap it all, I have found a good friend in Jenny, someone to walk with and share the joy of these lovely dogs."

My name's Millie and I live at Clarks Farm. I was born in October 2001 and my racing name was ‘Smiling Millie’.I raced at Crayford Stadium and after I finished racing in 2005 I came to Clarks Farm to find a ‘Forever Home’. I'm very shy with new people and don’t have much confidence so I found it very unsettling when I went into a home. After two attempts everyone decided that I should stay at Clarks Farm. I love everyone here and they work hard with me to help build up my confidence. I know that I'll be able to find a home with a very special person one day. I am very playful and live up to my racing name by giving a proper ‘greyhound grin’ but to start with I can be a little stand-offish and back away from people I don’t know.
