Lots of money raised, lots of donations made!

We have made donations in the past couple of months to all of the local kennels who rehome greyhounds. Many of them took up our offer of nice warm kennel coats for the winter, all received a Christmas box of £100 and two special donations of £250 were made to Greyhound Gap and Southern Lurcher Rescue. We have also helped with the cost of some improvements at both Harlow Hounds kennels and Brentwood RGT kennels. Basildon RGT have some nice new beds and Gemini Kennels lots and lots of vet bed!

In addition to all our walks which everyone continues to enjoy, we've had a bumper couple of months with our fundraising.

Look at these happy volunteers at the Woodbridge Christmas Street Fair on 6 December!

Woodbridge Street Fair 2009

Despite a rather wet start to the day, the weather improved and the team added nearly £300 to our fund by selling biscuits, treats and anything saleable to the generous people of Woodbridge

On 21 November we held a pre Christmas 'party' at Harlow Stadium (thank you to the stadium for not charging). Nearly 100 of us were mesmerised by magic, had our pockets emptied by the auction and raffle then finally danced away our worries to the early hours. With many of our local kennels coming along we managed to raise over £1600, a splendid amount from a splendid evening.

The End of Summer

Yesterday saw the last summer show for Greyhound Walks and what a summer we've had! We've taken the stall out to over 20 events since April, promoting greyhounds, supporting other greyhound organisations and with the Display Team showing everyone what amazing dogs greyhounds are, even those who already have them!

The high point of the summer has to be going to the Great Greyhound Gathering in Nottingham and meeting owners and organisations from all over, and of course really impressing and amusing them with the skills of the Display Team. It was a long, but very worthwhile day, enjoyed by everyone.

A very busy 3 months for Greyhound Walks!

It's been all go for Greyhound Walks over the last 3 months! Not only have we held our monthly walks, in Sudbury, Westley Heights, Maldon, Royston, Braintree, Rendlesham, Nowton Park, Wat Tyler, Dedham, Little Hallingbury, Hylands Park and Great Dunmow, we've also been out and about at lots of local shows. We've taken our awareness stall to 12 different shows this year and paraded at Walton Carnival, and there's more to come!

Wherever we go our greyhounds always turn heads and generate lots of interest with the public, young and old alike, and our group of volunteers do a marvellous job of promoting greyhounds as pets.

On 8th August we celebrated our 100th walk. Little did we know in April 2006 that we would come so far in three short years! 94 greyhounds and lurchers enjoyed glorious summer sunshine at Notley Country Park where we had our customary walk, plus some mind boggling fun and games for humans and dogs, courtesy of Pennie Clayton. Check out the picture of Poppy trying to solve a puzzle on her website.

Walton on the Naze walk

Walton beach is a firm favourite withour walkers, a lovely promenade, lovely sand and lots of areas where you're allowed to take the dogs on the beach. One of our quieter walks but throughly enjoyed by all and as usual our lovely dogs turned a few heads and gained some real admirers. And what do you have when you go to the seaside ... ice cream of course

Walking in Hertfordshire

We're very excited by the couple of 'tester' walks that we've had in Royston, so much so that we're going to make Hertfordshire a monthly event! Linda Hudson is going to be organising a walk on Royston Heath on the 3rd weekend of the month so if you're from that area and want to join in, keep checking back for the full details of day/time.

As the group grows we'll be looking for some more ideas of venues so if you know somewhere with good, safe parking and suitable for a number of dogs walking together do drop us an email

Great walks, great social event and our greyhounds try agility!

Over £1000 raised! - Greyhound Walks held its first Suffolk social event, a quiz night at the Woodbridge Community Hall. 15 teams came along for a very lively quiz hosted by Marc and Paul and 21 Greyhounds also enjoyed the evening, although none of them knew any of the answers!

Local teams included Happi at Home dog sitting and day care. Whitworth Vets based in Felixstowe and Smith Ryder Davies vets of Woodbridge and Rendlesham (otherwise known as the "Rendlesham Stalkers") and the usual motley crew from the Greyhound Walks following! It was a closely contested event but the best girls won - the team from Smith Ryder Davies - congratulations!

Watch this space for further Suffolk social events. We have great hopes for Suffolk and any ideas for future walks and or social events are always welcome, email sueedwards@greyhoundwalks.org.uk

Greyhound Walks Quiz Nite Woodbridge

As you can see from the photos our last walks have been a huge sucess ... as usual. We can now reasonably expect in excess of 50 dogs at each of our walks and we have grown into a very caring and friendly family

Greyhound Walks in Weald, Dedham and Royston
Our last three walks ... lots of lovely hounds as usual

Our first outing to North Herts is, we hope, going to set the scene for future walks in Herts and Cambridgeshire where we have a number of very dedicated greyhound owners desperate to have walks! If you live in those counties and would like more details please email us and we'll keep you up to date.

The Display Team have started their practice sessions, with lots of new greyhounds coming along to try and get a coveted place in the 'squad'. We've recently taken delivery of some agility equipment (with the very kind guidance of Agility Warehouse) and trialled it with some of the team members at the last practice, watch this space to see how we get on!

Great News!! After a few nail biting months we learned today that our application to become a charity has been approved and we are now registered. This is a huge milestone for us, very exciting!

What weather! The weather so far this year hasn't been at it's best, it's either cold and windy, wet and rainy or freezing and snowy! So different to the start of last year. But this hasn't put the walkers off, they still come out for a walk and chatter, and we've welcomed many new people along as well.

Plans are afoot to start checking out a few walks in Hertfordshire, the first foray is to Royston, the full details of this are on the forum

What a start to the New Year! Greyhounds, greyhounds as far as the eye can see!

Our first walk of the year was at Hylands Park where the greyhounds just kept on coming! Just as you thought everyone had arrived so another car pulled up and out jumped another greyhound or two, or three! Our count was 128 greyhounds and lurchers plus 5 'others' who were allowed along as they were in a greyhound family. This is a brilliant start to what we hope will be a great year for greyhounds.

Hylands Park, Chelmsford - New Years Day walk

Thank you everyone who came, it was colder than it looks! From the feedback we had from the walk I think we all felt very priveledged to be a part of such a lovely walk, with such well behaved magnificent hounds, in such friendly company.

Our second walk for the year was on the 4th at Woodbridge in Suffolk. We've been walking around Suffolk for about a year now and our 'regulars' are growing in number so we were delighted that 40 greyhounds arrived at the car park, coated and in some cases double coated as it was bitterly cold. 3 'Test Drive' families joined us for a splendid walk along the river tow path so we hope they've gone home and picked up the phone to a rehoming kennel! As usual our crocodile of greyhounds turned many heads and prompted many questions from passers by. Thank you to the lovely cafe for the very welcome warm drinks at the riverside.
