On 20 June Greyhound Walks were the main co-ordinators for the very first Great British Greyhound Walk.
All around the country, including northern Ireland and Jersey greyhound owners, lovers and rehomers walked, 44 different locations in total. And a staggering 1641 dogs were walked that day to bring owners together and to promote greyhounds as pets.
We had our walks in Chelmsford, Royston and Woodbridge and had a massive total of 208 dogs walks ... amazing!

Woodbridge Walk with 54 dogs walking

Royston Walk with 48 dogs walking

Chelmsford Walk with 106 dogs walking
Thank you to everyone for taking part and making this a greYt day ... watch for the announcement for the date for GBGW2011!
There were lots of celebrations in the Peacock and Nicholls households as two very distinguished old ladies of the walks reached their 14th birthdays! Two peas in a pod they may look like but they are very different in character, but both loved to bits and there was a huge cheer from all the other walkers at the June Notley walk ... here's to 15 girls

What weather!
Famous last words since our last piece of news! We've never got so wet or so cold on our spring walks and events as we have this year! Where's the sun gone?

Our first outing to Heybridge Basin on 2nd May saw 16 brave greyhounds and their owners get drenched through to their innards, but it takes more than a few raindrops to dampen our spirits and everyone agreed Heybridge Basin was a great place to walk. Hopefully we might get back there for an evening walk when the British weather turns tropical.
The following day we took our stall out to the Barking Mayhem Show near Stevenage and spent the first hour or two clutching onto the framework ot the dome for fear it would blow away! We weren't so stoical that day and after a 5 minute hailstorm in the early afternoon decided that only complete fools would stay on, so packed up our gear and headed home to the warm and dry! Things will get better!

GW hits the beach
Weren't we lucky with the weather when we held our annual Walton Frinton walk last Sunday. The skies were beautifully blue and the dogs were so excited to get the sand between their toes. A great walk with 56 happy hounds out walking.

A donation from Whitworth Vets
After coming a handsome 1st at our second Woodbridge Quiz Night,Whitworth Vets ran an Easter Raffle and donated the proceeds of £160 to Greyhound Walks. Absolutely marvellous and thank you very much!

Stepping out in Hertfordshire
Although we've been walking in Royston in Hertforshire for a year now we've really struggled to find other suitable venues for walks. But we're not the type to give up, and at last we think we've found another park, way way down in South West Herts that will give our southern most walkers a shorter journey to reach a walk and give the more adventurous travellers another beautiful venue to explore.
Letters are being written, permissions are being sought and we hope to be able to add additional Hertforshire walks to our calendar in the very near future!![]()

What a start to the New Year ... we said this at the start of 2009 and say it again at the start of 2010!
Greyhound Walks returned to Hylands Park, Chelmsford for repeat New Years Day GreyhoundPLUS walk following the success of the walk in 2009. Do you remember then we had 128 dogs? Well this year we had 168! Despite the cold weather in the week before our lovely greyhounds, lurchers and their equally lovely owners turned out literally in their hundreds!

Hylands Park, Chelmsford - New Years Day 2010 walk, 168 dogs and their owners!
The sight was staggering and was a real credit to greyhounds naturally impeccable behaviour!

Lots more photographs on our Forum!
