Welcome to Greyhound Walks!

Greyhound Walks are a group of greyhound and lurcher owners and lovers who regularly meet for an hours stroll, chatter and the sharing of doggy tales in and around Essex and Suffolk.
We always meet on the second Sunday of the month at The Discovery Centre Great Notley Country Park, Braintree, Essex at 10am. Each month we also meet at other venues in and around Essex and Suffolk, see the Walk Calendar for all our planned walks.

February 2008 - 79 greyhounds and lurchers went up the hill at Notley Country Park, Braintree.
Anyone with a greyhound or lurcher is more than welcome, or anyone who would just like to walk out with greyhounds to see what great pets they make. Maybe even take one for a Test Drive!
We ask for all dogs to be kept on the lead while we are walking as a group and we restrict the walk to greyhounds and lurchers only. There is no charge but we have a voluntary contribution bucket, all money collected is passed to needy Essex and Suffolk greyhounds.
`Our aims are to:
- socialise our greyhounds, lurchers and ourselves!
- promote and raise awareness of retired greyhounds as family pets
- through voluntary contributions and events, raise money for needy Essex and Suffolk greyhounds
- support Essex and Suffolk greyhound rehoming kennels
Greyhound Walks are affliated to the Retired Greyhound Trust CN 269668

Our History

The first Greyhound Walk was in April 2006 when 5 greyhounds and their families got together after a letter was written to the Braintree Times seeing local owners fancied a get-together. Numbers steadily grew and in August 2006 there was an enormous boost after the plight of ex racing greyhounds was highlighted nationally. Since then once monthly walks have progressed to twice monthly walks and in 2008 we're doing 3 walks each month. The number of dogs at each walk averages 60 and our record attendance was in February 2008 at Braintree when 79 dogs went walking.
