Greyhound Walks Display Team
News from the Display Team
Can you believe it? The GWDT has now completed a 3rd Season of shows!! What an amazing journey of discovery, innovation, nerves, friendship, loyalty & fun it has been … from the very first faltering practice sessions held in snow, wind, rain, sunshine (not all at once you understand) to a return visit this year to Nottingham for the Great Greyhound Gathering.
The team may yet be few in number but they are large in spirit and goodwill and do it only for the reward of helping the public to see what these wonderful Greyhounds and Lurchers are capable of and proudly represent Greyhound Walks (and of course to show off a bit).
There have been times when everyone was available and times when only a handful of the team have been able to attend but still,
THE SHOW WENT ON.
Original members Chelsea, Parris & Gracie have retired from the team and sadly, we have lost Wagger, Roger & Dana to Rainbow Bridge but we hold them forever in our hearts.
2011 will see the arrival of new members and new routines and the team are all looking forward to another season of showing off their hounds and helping others to see what we “hound types” already know ...these wonderful creatures make magnificent family companions and can do “obedience” ….all be it in a uniquely houndie manner.
We are still looking for more members young, old, tall or short all are welcome so, if you & your hound would like to show off your skills email: info@greyhoundwalks.org.uk or call 07983 430352 ... COME ON, YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO!
Here's a taster of what our team can do ...
Nottingham Greyhound Gala - September 2009
Our Story
Early in 2008 some bright person came up with the idea of a Greyhound Obedience Team and after some chilly Saturday morning practice sessions by dedicated, some may say stupid, greyhound owners, our Display Team was born.
With a core group of 10 greyhounds and handlers we put a display together, even getting some of our greyhounds to do individual 'star turns' and set our sights on performing in public at the first Greyhound Walks Show in April 2008. It was a huge success and the rest is now history. We've added to our number and now have 15 dogs 'trained' and plan to take our display to as many shows as practical in 2009. We're going to show the public that not only are our greyhounds the most wonderful pets, but they can also do as they're asked ... well sometimes!
